After the holiday rush and our trip “Outside” back to the East Coast after Christmas, Cecelia and I finally found a few hours to go out and play this weekend. The Eagle River Nordic Ski Club maintains 17K of lighted trails about 10 miles from our house, and this is the first time we’ve had a chance to try it. It’s as good as Sugarloaf, closer to home, and the trails are better marked!!
We got woken up the other night by the dog barking at 3 AM. Getting up to check it out, I discovered 2 moose in our driveway. The moose have all over lately, as the deep snow in the woods has driven them into towns and onto the roads. .It’s always unnerving to meet one of them on one of the busy roads in Anchorage on my way into work in the morning while it’s still dark.
The road down the mountain from our house to the main road into Anchorage has been fun this winter, too. 1800 feet in elevation over 6 miles, all of it covered with packed snow and occasionally spread with pea-sized gravel. We had a school bus go off the road and flip on it’s side within sight of our house two days ago. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
Here are a few photos of our last snowstorm and of our X-C skiing outing.
